The Biden-Harris Administration is providing up to $20,000 in student loan debt relief for eligible borrowers. This is a one-time debt relief program which is being provided by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) under the Biden-Harris Administration student debt relief plan.
Students or former students must apply for this program. Applications must be submitted no later than December 31, 2023. It will take about five minutes to complete the application and no login or documents are required. To access the application, go to https://studentaid.gov/debt-relief/application.
This debt relief applies only to loan balances prior to June 30, 2022. Any new loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2022, are not eligible for debt relief.
Students could receive up to $20,000 in debt relief if they received a Federal Pell Grant in college and meet the income requirements. Or, students could receive up to $10,000 in debt relief if they did not receive a Federal Pell Grant in college and meet the income requirements.
