Internship

February 1 through April 15, 2024, 20 hours/week, no weekends required. Opportunity for an accounting student to gain real-world experience in a Michigan-based CPA firm. Engage in tax preparation for a variety of industries. A flexible, part-time work schedule of at least 20 hours per week to accommodate your school schedule while allowing you to participate during the busy tax season. Currently, we are working in a hybrid remote and in-person environment.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform entry-level tax procedures including work paper documentation and tax return preparation.
  • Conduct research and other assignments as needed.

 

Requirements

 

  • Basic Excel experience required.
  • Major/minor in accounting.

 

Training provided to learn the tax software and other processes involved in the tax return preparation. We provide two days of dedicated technical tax training to prepare our interns for the busy tax season.

We are seeking an individual to join our team of accountants to provide various bookkeeping and financial accounting services to our clients in various industries. Experience in financial statements, payroll, monthly reports, quarterly payroll tax returns, and journal entries, using QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online or other financial software. Customer service and strong communication skills are important, along with exceptional bookkeeping abilities. Currently, we are working in a hybrid remote and in-person environment.

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide assistance with clients’ bookkeeping using QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online.
  • Process payroll and payroll tax returns (annual, quarterly, monthly).
  • Compile financial statements and other financial information from client data.

  • Assist with client communications.

Requirements

 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business-related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years of recent payroll, accounting, bookkeeping experience.

We are seeking a Controller to assist in all aspects of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions according to the established procedures or as directed by the Director or Finance. This position is in-person with occasional remote work.

Responsibilities

 

  • Supports and complies with the policies and procedures set forth in the Employee Guidelines manual.
  • Models the standards established in the AHP Code of Conduct.
  • Manages all aspects of accounting such as billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses.
  • Implements consistent accounting policies, practices, procedures across all programs, adheres to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation.
  • Maximizes payroll efficiency through innovative process development.
  • Develops and enforces internal controls to maximize protection of the firm assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Establishes financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring and reporting standards on semi-monthly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Complies with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, payroll, wage and hour laws, tax filings, reporting, and best practices.
  • Responsible for calculations regarding payroll and benefits for employees on flexible arrangements.
  • Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.
  • Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • Organizes information and statements for audits and both internal and external auditors.
  • Assists with supervision of the time and billing clerks.
  • Works closely with other accounting personnel and the Human Resources Department. 

 

Requirements

 

  • Five years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred three-five (3-5) years previous financial accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Position is in-person with occasional remote work. If the new hire is not located in the Saginaw area, regular travel to the firm’s Saginaw, MI office will be required.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Utilize virtual meeting software such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to operate office equipment (fax machine, telephone skills, calculator, copier, etc.).

We are looking for a full-time IT Technician or a part-time intern working on a computer science degree. This entry-level position will be responsible for providing information technology desktop and server support to our nine AHP locations in Michigan. Currently, we are working in a hybrid in-person and remote environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize experience and knowledge of basic techniques and concepts in technology including desktop support (Windows), core accounting application support, antivirus, and other desktop applications.
  • Provide outstanding support to internal end users with excellent customer service skills.
  • Utilize help desk ticketing software to track and document support requests.
  • Keep current on technical issues and attempts to apply them to firm circumstances.
  • Recognize problems or exceptions and offers viable solutions.
  • Maintain and updates firm wide inventory of computer equipment and IT assets.
  • Keep track of what software the firm uses and installs software updates.
  • Set up new workstations, network printers, and other systems and remove those which are no longer needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or technology-related field or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • If an ideal candidate is still pursuing their degree, AHP is willing to consider an internship.
