Michelle DeRidder Attends MACPA Ceremony

Michelle DeRidder attended the MACPA award ceremony in Dearborn on September 8, 2004.  Her attendance was not just as an observer, she received an award for her outstanding work on the Membership Task Force.  Congratulations Michelle!

The Membership Task Force contributed significantly to the MACPA over the past year. The task force won the Outstanding Task Force Award for their services.

Duane Reyhl Publishes Article on Creating an Antifraud Culture

Duane Reyhl, a senior manager with AHP, published the article, "Create an Antifraud Culture," in the July 2004 issue of The Greater Lansing Business Monthly.

In the article, Duane outlines the five steps necessary in implementing an antifraud culture:

  • Create a high ethical tone at the top
  • Create a positive workplace
  • Promote proper employee management practices
  • Establish expectations for accountability
  • Communicate the disciplinary process for fraudulent behavior

15-Mar-04 Michael Collins Passes CPA Exam

The partners of AHP are pleased to announce that Michael Collins has successfully completed the CPA exam.

Michael joined AHP’s Auburn Hills office in 2001 as a Staff Accountant. 

A native of Milford, he received a Bachelor degree in Accounting from Walsh College.  He specializes in both corporate and personal tax returns and is a member of the Auburn Hills office audit team, conducting audits for not-for-profit organizations and various governmental entities in the Southeast Michigan area.  Michael also assists with the preparation of financial statements and payroll for business clients. Michael is a member of the MACPA, Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the Walsh College Alumni Association.

The partners of AHP are pleased to announce that Shelly Gransden has successfully completed the CPA exam. 

Shelly joined AHP in 2001 as a staff accountant.   She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Northwood University.  She specializes in personal and business tax planning and preparation.  Shelly is also a member of AHP teams that perform audit services for a variety of governmental, private and publicly held organizations.

A native of Midland, she resides in Bay City.

Duane Reyhl Addresses the Associated Builders And Contractors On Fraud Protection

Duane Reyhl, a senior manager with AHP, spoke at the February meeting of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Saginaw on the topic “Protecting Your Construction Business Against Employee Fraud”.

In his discussion, Duane informed the audience that fraud and abuse costs employers an average of $9 per day, per employee.  His presentation went on to discuss the definition of fraud and what motivates someone to commit it.  He highlighted the “red flags” unique to fraud in the construction industry and offered tips on how to prevent it.

Duane also presented a sample anti-fraud policy to the group and gave some suggestions on actions to take if fraud is suspected.

17-Feb-04 Dean Brown Receives CISSP

Dean E. Brown has successfully fulfilled the requirements for and earned the designation of Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).  Requirements for the CISSP were developed by the International Information Systems Certification Consortium, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing information security professionals with certification that is based on a compendium of industry “best practices”.

The certification consists of modules in 10 areas: access control systems and methodology, telecommunications and network security, security management, applications and system development security, cryptography, security architecture models, operations security, business continuity planning, law ethics investigation and physical security.

Dean has also earned the credentials of  Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer during his career.  

Dean joined AHP Consulting in 2002 and serves as Manager of the Information and Technology Services division.  He serves clients throughout Michigan with consulting services including security reviews, information technology management, business continuity planning and business needs analysis and solutions.  Dean is based in AHP’s Saginaw office on Gratiot.  He is a resident of Freeland and a member of the Midland Morning Rotary Club.


10-Dec-02 Firm Announces the Addition of a New Partner in the Grand Rapids Office

The Partners are pleased to announce that Stephen R. Miller has joined the firm as a Partner in the Grand Rapids office.  Steve was a Principal with Ernst & Young LLP where he served as leader of the West Michigan State and Local tax group.  Prior to serving in that capacity for the last two years, Steve was a tax services coordinator in their Entrepreneurial Services Group, with responsibilities for tax services to clients in a variety of industries.  Steve brings a substantial knowledge base to the firm in the State and Local tax area, along with a strong understanding of Federal matters.
