IRS announces a delay in the start of the 2014 tax season by an estimated one to two weeks.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, the IRS announced a delay in the start of the 2014 tax season by an estimated one to two weeks. This delay is so that they have adequate time to program and test their tax processing systems following the recent government shutdown.

The IRS will start accepting and processing 2013 returns no earlier than January 21, 2014, and no later than February 4, 2014. The IRS will not be processing paper returns prior to the start date as well.
